Why Delhi?
This refers to the news story
titled:"Koirala leaves for New Delhi" dated April 15, 2002, TKP. Nepali Congress
President Girija Prasad Koirala has left for Delhi as if he is Deubas successor and
the one who can only steer this country to the right direction. Koirala was making hue and
cry to topple the Deuba government but only a few Koirala loyalists backed his idea of a
national democratic alliance. Koirala even came up with an idea to share power with the
opposition party CPN-UML. All his efforts did not work. Now Koirala has left for India to
make his idea work. Not that, I mean, Koirala alone has done so. The list of Nepali
political leaders who leave for Delhi at the time of crisis is long. It has been a
tradition right from the day of the late King Tribhuvan. This means Nepal is regulated by
external forces which undermine our sovereign rights. This is nothing but poor knowledge
and ability to resolve problems. We have no clear cut policies towards India nor do we
care of keeping distance with India. India is directly or indirectly dragged into domestic
politics by none other than our own leaders.
Frequent visits to India by our leaders
demonstrate how weak our political leadership is. The country really needs a good leader
who can really outline policies towards India and China. The bottomline: Our politics
should not depend on India. Rather, it should shape up spontaneously.
