KATHMANDU, April 22 The first Dhirendra Memorial
National Karate, Judo and Kick-boxing Championship will be held at the covered hall
Tripureshwor from May 13-15, organisers National Unity Council (NUC) announced here
Monday.
NUC member Avaya Singh Budathoki, speaking at a
press conference held on Monday said that the championship would draw some 368 players
from across the nation. Altogether 19 events including 11 in karate, five in judo and
three in kick-boxing will be included in the championship.
A total of 16 teams consisting each from a zone
and two departmental teams from Nepal Police and Royal Nepal Army will compete at the
three-day championship. According to NUC president Shastradutta Panta, the Nepal Karate
Federation (NKF) will provide the technical assistance with 45 referees to facilitate the
championship.
An estimated 2.3 million rupees will incur for
the organisation of the event. The cost will cover transportation and accommodation for
the participating players and officials.
The championship will serve as the preparation
for the upcoming 14th Asiad Games to be held in Busan of South Korea in September this
year. Late Dhirendra Bir Bikram Shah, one of the victims of Royal Palace massacre, was the
patron of National Sports Council (NSC) from 1979-1990. |
