Awale, Gurung dominate U-12
events in table tennis

KATHMANDU, Dec 26:Ashish Awale and Manju Gurung
clinched the respective titles for under-12 boys and girls on Thursday in the Table Tennis
tournament.
The tournament has been organised by Nepal Table
Tennis Association (NTTA) under the auspices of National Sports Council (NSC) on the
occasion of 32nd Birthday of Crown Prince Paras.
In the boys under-12 final, Awale of
Ganesh Memorial School defeated Surendra Sajakhu of Brighter Star. Sajan Thapa (Suryodaya
School) and Subrat Acharya (Rai School) shared the third place in the event.
In the same event for girls, Manju Gurung from
SOS beat Kanya High Schools Manila Pandey for the title while Anita Maharjan (Kanya)
and Maya Syangjon (Happy Home) held joint third position.
Similary, Rita Prajapati clinched the womens
open singles title as she defeated Rabina Deshar. Alisha Shrestha and Swagat Bhandari
finished joint third in the competition.
Dip Saud and Ajay Suwal, both representing
Holyland School will contest the boys under-16 final on Friday. That will be followed by
the mens open final between Chandan Shahi and Shiva Sundar Gothe.
Squash
Satya Narayan Shrestha and Dilip Adhikari
entered the mens open semi-finals of the Squash tournament at Satdobato.
In the quarterfinals held on Thursday, Shrestha
edged past Bir Bahadur Nepal 3-1 while Adhikari earned a walkover from Hira Bahadur Thapa.
Anil Singh and Ajay Singh coasted to the
semi-finals of the masters event with easy 3-0 wins over Ananta Singh and Prem Singh
respectively. Also to reach the last four was Bhusan Kumar Shrestha, who beat SD Pamp 3-1
in the veterans over 45 event.
Janak Thapa and Subodh Pradhan marched into the
last four of plate event under mens open category with straight forward 3-0 win over
their respective oppositions Prakash Amatya and Bhaskar Poudel.
Weightlifting
Royal Nepal Armys Tribhuvan Club held
their supremacy in the National Weightlifting competition grabbing four of the seven
titles decided today.
Army man Kamal Adhikari secured pole position in
the mens 69kg while his colleagues Sambhu Sunuwar, Gyan Bahadur and Gopal Bahadur
Shrestha held their domination winning the 77kg, 85kg and 105kg titles respectively.
Weightlifters representing Kathmandu came up
with next best with two titles as Anish Ranjeet stood first in the mens 56kg
category while Sunil Tandukar lifted more than anyone in the 94kg section.
In the 62kg category, Rakbodyesh Ranjeet
maintained his long-held domination to outwit Armys Raju Rana for the pole position.
