NSC organises ceremonial rally

KATHMANDU, Dec 30 : The National Sports Council organised a grand rally in the capital on Monday to mark the 32nd Birthday of Crown Prince Paras Bir Bikram Shah Dev.

The rally organised for wishing good health and long life of the Crown Prince began from Dashrath Stadium and concluded at the same place after going through New Road Gate, Jamal, Royal Palace and Bhadrakali.

Veteran marathoner Baikuntha Manandhar lit the Olympic torch to declare the rally start. Minister for Education and Sports Devi Prasad Ojha, Assistant Minister for Education and Sports Rabindra Khanal, National Sports Council (NSC) member-secretary Binod Shankar Palikhe and members of all 42 sports association, NSC staff and players attended the rally.

Boxing

Bir Bahadur Basnet of Gulmi defeated Rupak Rai of Naxal Youth Alliance (NYA) in the 51kg weight category boxing of Birthday Cup Boxing Championship on Monday.

Devendra Thakuri of Tribhuvan Club downed Lok Bahadur Hemjan of Mahottari in 54kg weight category. Krishna Bahadur Kumal also registered win over Sunil Thapa of Kamalpokhari in the same category. From 57kg, Parsa’s Birendra Bhattarai and Makwanpur’s Dinesh Shrestha recorded wins over Tej Bahadur Shrestha and Gyanendra Shakya of Meghdut. In junior’s 48kg weight category, Bijay Khadka of NYA defeated Kapil Bhattarai of Mahottari while Sridhar KC and Surya Lama also won their matches to enter the second round. In Monday’s only match of women’s 48kg weight category, Kumari Bhagirathi Bhatt of Kanchanpur defeated Tilrupa Lugeli of Jhapa.
