Khadkas 9-goal
blitzkrieg buries Naxal
Post Report
KATHMANDU, Feb 15: Ace striker Hari Khadka
scored nine goals to help Mahendra Police Club (MPC) inflict a rare 13-0 hiding over Naxal
Yuva Mandal while ANFA Academy stunned Sankata Boys Sports Club 3-0 in the matches of Kings
Cup knockout football tournament on Friday.
Khadkas tally of nine goals in the match
is his highest in any level of football.
In the tournaments first quarterfinal,
completely dominated by the Police team, Naxal could hardly trouble MPC defence in the 90
minutes time.
The Police side started to attack from the
outset and was rewarded in the 11th minute of the match. Ramesh Budathoki, whose hattrick
was overshadowed by Khadkas historical performance, struck the first for MPC. Two
minutes later, Khadka, scored his first and doubled the teams tally at 2-0. Khadka,
who is wedding on coming Sunday, netted his second in the 23rd minute and in the 31st
minute completed his hattrick to become the second player to score hattrick in the
tournament. Khadka headed home the hattrick when veteran Dev Narayan Chaudhary released a
perfect cross to him at the centre.
That was not all, by the half time, MPC were at
comfortable 5-0 lead and in the second half scored further eight goals to demolish Naxal
who were playing against the countrys football powerhouse after three years.
Khadka went on inflicting more wounds to Naxal
and scored three more in 49th, 58th, 69th minute. In the 71st minute, Budathoki completed
his treble unleashing a powerful rightfooter when Kishore Subba centered him from right
flank.
Pawan Gurung, who substituted Budathoki in the
72nd minute, created all the three goals Khadka scored in the final
session. The Gurung-Khadka pair scored in the 79th, 80th and 85th minute to wrap up one of
the most disastrous day for a Nepali A division club.
Besides Khadka and Budathoki, Ananta Thapa also
scored a goal in the 75th minute.
In a preliminary match played earlier the day,
youngster ANFA Academy handed a comfortable 3-1 defeat over Sankata to face strong Manang
Marsyangdi Club (MMC) in the quarterfinal.
Both the teams concentrating more on defence,
failed to stage convincing attacks in the first half. But the ANFA junior playing more
technically and demonstrating a good understanding at the front, stormed back into the
match in the second half with all their three goals.
In the 54th minute, Pravin Manandhar connected a
brilliant header on Susan Bhandarys pass to put the Academy team 1-0 up.
The second goal was probably the best of the day
as substitute Deepak Khawas fired a 35-yard powerful shot that sailed into the net leaving
Sankatas goalie Manish Hada stand still.
The ANFA youngsters further added one goal to
confirm the victory in the 83rd minute through Saugat Subba. From Sankata side, Salyan
Khadgi headed the consolation goal one-minute off the time.
