Right assessment
This is in response to Suraj Bhattarais
letter to the editor titled: "After Maoist attack", Feb 22, 2002, TKP. He has
aptly assessed the calibre of NC leaders as being fit to perform religious rites in
Banaras and not rule the country. However, Suraj should also have generalized his comments
on the corrupt nature of our leaders, since NC is not the only party providing shelter to
corrupt demagogues.
On the one hand, the Maoists are propagating
violence killing civilians as well as officers, who are also citizens performing their
duties, in the name of people, as if there is a separate sect called so, and on the other
hand our leaders are still fighting over the "bone" as ever before.
Publics standard of living or thinking or even earning is not much different from
the Panchayat days, leaders have been transformed into a superior class; publics
health is as bad as it as before, leaders have gone fatter; publics education is
still in shambles, leaders offsprings are educated abroad.
Where did all these riches suddenly come to
our leaders who were barely able to feed themselves not very long ago? If they were to
divulge their knowledge of the "gold-tree" that they seem to have discovered,
our countrymen would not have been fighting each other today. We, the public, can only
presume that the "bone" they are fighting for is this knowledge of
"gold-tree".
