In the days most closely contested battle, Lincoln girls fumbled in the later part of the match to allow the opposition to overtake them. When the points were at level on 22-22, Excelsiors Tabassum Banu brilliantly netted the decisive blow for Lincoln penetrating their defense. Earlier, Bina Yanzon opened the scoring for Excelsior in the fourth minute of the match. But Lincoln girls, taking the advantage of their height, took the score at 10-6 in the half time. Poor stamina prevented Lincoln girls to seal the match convincingly as at one stage they were comfortably leading Excelsior 18-12 but a couple of nets by Yanzon saw Excelsior girls 18-16 at one stage. Yanzon topscored from Excelsior with nine points to her name. Roshani Moktan, who netted the equaliser at 22-22, also gave a handy support to her team scoring seven points. The Lincoln side showed nice coordination among the players and demonstrated brilliant game at the court. Amoreei Wilsanov topscored for Lincoln contributing six points. Post Report POKHARA, Feb 24: Galaxian Club registered their place in the semifinals with an easy 2-0 win over Biratnagar in the Caravan Gold Cup Football tournament, which resumed on Sunday after a two-day break. The Galaxians scored a goal in each half to join Sahara Club (White), Sahara Club (Blue) and RCT in the quarterfinals. Biratnagar, who fielded five footballers without any experience at national level, struggled to work as a single unit, which left them with no chance against the spirited side that climbed up to the A division last season. Surprising though, showing some dogged defence, they frustrated Galaxian Club denying chances that came in waves. Especially, Santosh Basnet looked agile at the back. Galaxian Club eventually broke past the Biratnagar defense to move 1-0 up in the 41st minute. However, it came off a freak move when Galaxian Club defender Bikash Limbu found the net with a shot on the run as he was pushing the ball upfield from the penalty area. It crossed the line escaping everyones notice, which brought the match to a halt for almost five minutes before the referee and his assistant allowed the goal. Biratnagar created a few scoring chances of their own but the poor team combination kept them at bay. Biratnagars Diwas Rai and Danny Rai played brilliantly in the midfield but their strikers failed to provide ample support. But Galaxian Club, instead of going for a kill, played a waiting game and exploited the oppositions shortcoming. And that was exactly what they did six minutes from time as striker Prabesh Katuwal cashed in on Biratnagar defender Prakash Karkis mistake to add another goal for the 2-0 win. Bikash Limbu of Galaxian Club and Biratnagars Bhuvan Theva and Danny Rai were booked for offensive play in the Sundays match. Sahara Club (White) face off Khukuri Club of Deharadun on Monday. |
