Eastern Railways into last four Post Report POKHARA, Feb 26: Eastern Railways Sports Association team from Kolkata entered the semi-finals of the Caravan Gold Cup football tournament following a 1-0 win over the Ranipokhari Corner Team (RCT) in the second quarter-final played on Tuesday. Both the teams looked aggressive right from the onset of the match. However, none of the teams could make any impact to the scoreboard until the end of the first half. The visitors from Kolkata were the first to change the scores when S Dhara, the Eastern Railway forward, dented the RCT defence 25 minutes into the second half. Ujjwal Manandhar, the RCT goalie was left clueless in response to the breathtaking shot of Dhara. RCT, despite finishing the day as the second best, looked to be the dominant side during almost entire first half. However, they had only themselves to blame for the defeat as most of the chances they created in the middle went begging, thanks to lacklustre play shown by their forwards. Eastern Railway team, who were almost at the backseat in the first half proceedings, showed a lot of co-ordination up front in the latter half of the match. Launching a wave of attacks, their forwards seemed to have settled in the opponents area throughout the second half. Even after going 1-0 up, the Kolkatan defence hardly showed any complacency as the RCT offensive, few in number, were negotiated easily, to the dismay of the capacity crowd. Lokesh Thapa and Gibesh Pandey of RCT received warning for their foul play while for the Eastern Railways, honours were bagged by S Das and S Chakraborty. Manang Marshyangdi and Sahara White will fight out for a place in the last four on Wednesday. |
