Nallu, Tinthana enter quarters

LALITPUR, Jan 2 - Nallu VDC came back from a goal down to beat Duwakot 2-1 for a place in the last eight in the Puspalal Memorial Cup Inter-VDC football tournament on Wednesday.

The first of the tournament’s pre-quarterfinals played at ANFA Complex, Satdobato, saw Ashok Lama score a golden goal 13 minutes in the extra period after the teams failed to break the 1-1 deadlock in the regulation time.

Earlier, Duwakot went into 1-0 lead through a 21st minute strike. The Nallu equaliser came in the 68th minute through Sunil Lama.

To join Nallu in the quarterfinals, Shesh Narayan registered a stunning 3-1 victory over Tikathali. Sanu Babu Balami struck twice in the 21st and 24th minutes for Shesh Narayan. But like in the preceding match, it was Tikathali who were at the lead as Raju Bisunke opened the scoring when he buried a fatal shot in the 17th minute.

Tinthana VDC also marched into the last eight, with Dinesh Singh Khadka’s solitary goal, beating Chittapole VDC 1-0 in the day’s other pre-quarterfinal. Khadka scored in the 27th minute.

In the last encounter of the day, Danchhi VDC scored in the 60th minute to end the challenge of Ichangu by 1-0. All four quarterfinals will be played on Thursday with Dhapakhel taking on Tinthana, New Naikap vs Nallu, Ramkott vs Shesh Narayan and Dhakshinkali vs Danchi.
