Crown Prince to open CAN Info-Tech 2002

KATHMANDU, Jan 10: His Royal Highness Crown Prince Paras Bir Bikram Shah Dev is scheduled to inaugurate the Eighth CAN Info-Tech and Nepal Information Technology Show & Conference 2002, amid a special function on January 24, 2002.

The Computer Association of Nepal (CAN) has been organizing the event annually in the capital since 1995 with an objective of promoting the information technology (IT) and creating awareness among the people about IT.

Atma Ram Ghimire, General Secretary of CAN, speaking at a press meet organized here today, said that the mega event in the IT sector is being organized from January 25 to 29, 2002 at the Birendra International Convention Centre (BICC).

He said that about 28 speakers from 10 different countries would present separate papers during a two-day International IT Conference. The IT experts of international repute would present papers on IT policy formulation, export of software, e-commerce and the role of IT in the overall development.

And talk programmes would be organized on IT education, human resource development (HRD), the utility of the Internet in the democratic system of polity and various other related issues.

CAN started to organize the international IT conference since last year and it has decided to give continuity to it in the years ahead.

Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST), Royal Thai Embassy, Nepal Telecommun-ications Corporation (NTC), Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Nepal Chamber of Commerce (NCC), Institute of Engineering and Asian-Oceanian Computing Industry Organization (ASOCIO) are supporting the event.

TEMENOS Software, College of Software Engineering (CSE) and Brother, Computer Advance System are the Platinum, Gold and Silver sponsors of this year repectively.

Channel Nepal, Kumari Bank Ltd, Nepal Insurance Company Ltd, Mercantile Communications Pvt Ltd, Makalu Yatayat Sewa Pvt Ltd, bitarak.com, Kantipur FM 96.1, Kantipur Publications, PC World, Spectrum Adv & Media Consultant and Hotel de L’Annapurna are the official sponsors of the event.

Till date 58 companies have booked stall for the five-day long event and companies from India and Singapore are also willing to participate in the programme, states a press release distributed on the occasion.
