There was so much pomp and show during the SAARC Summit. Now that the Summit is over, commuters are as usual having a hard time. Public transportation service is poor. The number of vehicles are inadequate, and in the absence of regular checks, greedy drivers cram passengers more than the normal capacity of a minibus. Due to this, commuters should rely on other means of transportation which are also no better. There is always a never-ending rush, and
almost everyday one witnesses a road accident. On top of that, there is a problem of
pollution and its effects on health. It is time the valley Traffic Police Office Kanchan Maharjan Through the column of your esteemed paper I should like to draw the attention of the authorities to a problem of our city. Most of the roads have developed potholes. The drains stopped working months ago. The result is millions of mosquitoes and flies. There are small huts and shops on either side of the road. The garbage is thrown anywhere on the road. There is ever-growing foul smell in the locality. The authorities should take some immediate steps. The roads should be repaired and swept. The drains should be cleared. The huts and small shops must be removed from the road sides. Will the authorities wake up and do something to make our city worth living? Ramesh Krishna Shah |
