All-party meet against demolition of highway houses RSS HETAUDA, Jan 16 An all-party meeting convened by Makawanpur District Development Committee has decided to request His Majestys Government not to implement the notice issued by HMG to the Division Road Office, Pathlaiya, Bara district to immediately demolish the permanent houses and huts being built by the people on their land along both sides of the Tribhuvan Rajpath and the Mahendra Highway. The meeting decided to request His Majestys Government not to destroy the infrastructure being built on both sides of the Tribhuvan Rajpath and the Mahendra Highway which falls within the jurisdiction of Hetauda Municipality, to run alternative highway from other municipalities and to take legal steps from the unit concerned of His Majestys Government to develop Hetauda into a model municipality. The meeting chaired by chairman of Makawanpur District Development Committee Rameswore Rana was attended by MP Bir Bahadur Lama, mayor of Hetauda Municipality Dormani Poudel, DDC Vice-Chairman Badri Prasad Lamsal, Chief District Officer Sitaram Khanal, president of Makawanpur district Nepali Congress Committee Ramchandra Aryal, secretary of the CPN-UML Makawanpur district committee Raghunath Khulal, RPP regional president Sitaram Bartaula, secretary of the CPN-ML district committee Ramchandra Dhakal , the heads of the district offices, teachers, social workers and journalists. NEFEJ to form network for development Post Report KATHMANDU, Jan 16 Nepal Forum for Environmental Journalists (NEFEJ) is preparing to form a national network to promote sustainable development in the country. According to NEFEJ General Secretary Rajesh Ghimire, the census-based network will promote sustainable development from grassroots to policy-making level. "It will consists of national and international non-governmental organisations, CBOS, journalists, experts and individuals in the field of sustainable development". Besides making civil society aware of sustainable development, it will assist the government to formulate national polices on sustainable development. The network will also provide inputs to the government for the preparation of the World Summit on Sustainable Development, 2002, Johannesburg, South Africa. It will also review the post-Rio activities of the government in the field of sustainable development, according to Arjun Dhakal, co-ordinator of the network. "It will also monitor governments activities after Johannesburg Summit," Dhakal said. Indrawati project to start production RSS CHAUTARA, Jan 16 The 7.5-megawatt Indrawati-III hydroelectricity project will start 2.5 megawatt commercial production from mid-March and its full production from mid-April, it is learnt from the National Hydropower Company which is undertaking the project. The construction of a 3,100-metre head-race tunnel of the project has been completed and works regarding the alignment is being done on a rapid scale, project manager Bidur Bahadur Karki said. The reservoir of the project is located at Tipeni of Lagarche Village Development Committee and the power house at Ratmate in Jyamire VDC. The power generated from the project will be fed to the national grid through the Nepal Electricity Authority sub-station located at Panchkhal in Kavre district. Panchkhal is 28 kilometres from the project site and powerlines have been already installed on 24 kilometres of the distance. The Indrawati-III project is a joint venture project between the N.B. Group, a Nepali Power Development Company and the Lizacraft Company of Norway with an approximately Rs 1.70 billion of investment capital. Post Report BIRGUNJ, Jan 16 The ward police at Birta in Birgunj, today morning arrested the convict who had fled 4 months ago with Rs 28 lakh 46 thousand from Haisafe Finance Company, operated by the Khetan Group. The driver of the finance company, Lok Bahadur Khadka of Nammani VDC-5 in Ramechhap district had made off with the cash as he was assigned by the company to deposit the cash in the bank on last 11 August. Following the incident, the company had reported the case to the Kathmandu police and the identification of the convict was circulated to all the police offices in the country. However, the convict could not be arrested earlier as he had been staying in India, police said. The police succeeded in arresting the convict following the information provided by a person that the convict was roaming in Birgunj itself, said Bijaya Shrestha, police Inspector at the ward police, Birta. He said the convict was arrested with Rs 32 thousand in hand. According to police sources, the case involved 6 other persons as claimed by the convict. Post Report KATHMANDU, Jan 16 - " Hindu culture is very much attached to personal emotions. This culture has experienced discriminations between higher and lower (Dalits) caste Hindus and Dalits do not mean they are inferior caste," said Pundit Narayan Prasad Pokhrel, President of World Hindu Federation. He was speaking at a programme organised by the World Hindu Youth Council (WHYC), a sister organisation of WHF here today.He said, "We should always discourage caste discrimination and we have to be free from prejudice." WHYC urges all the youths to join hands for the overall development of the country and appeals to them to promote our culture and tradition. It says the goal is achieved only when all youths work together. At the programme, WHYC shed light on the achievements it has attained in the past 18 months from the time of its inception and also mentioned the works to be implemented in different categories, like religion, culture, nation, politics and other areas in the coming years. |
