Verification of genuine certificates

We all are aware of the fact that thousands of fake certificates are produced for the application of jobs, for acquiring scholarships for higher studies and for getting promotion in government offices. However, the government has not yet been able to take any action against this heinous crime. Forget other offices, the fake certificates are very much legal inside the Ministry of Education (MOE). Hundreds of applicants, who apply for the scholarships given through MOE, use fake certificates every year. Unfortunately, the personnel who are in charge of screening academic credentials at MOE are well aware of what’s going on. And there are many incidents where fake certificate holders were actually able to obtain scholarships. Naturally, honest and hard working students get demoralized. This unscrupulous business is in fact encouraging people to "buy" certificates.

Undoubtedly, MOE’s move to check the academic certificates in administrative and teaching services is indeed assuring. However, will this be able to control the widespread use of false certificates? It will indeed be difficult to distinguish between the genuine and fake certificates since unscrupulous people adopt all sorts of tactics to hoodwink the authorities. Without a proper mechanism for scanning such certificates, and even more, a strong commitment on the part of the officials concerned, the campaign against the fake certificate racket will just be an exercise in futility.
