Yeti to meet Mumbai in decider

Post Report

BIRGUNJ, Jan 25: Yeti Airlines pulled a thrilling 2-wicket victory over Parsa Cricket Association in Group ‘A’ match on Friday to book their place in the final of the Dugarmal Chachan Gold Cup cricket tournament.

With the win, Yeti Airlines will face off Union Bank of India, Mumbai on Saturday’s title clash at Adarsa Nagar Stadium, Birgunj.

The local team’s decision to bat first looked promising when the opening batsmen put on valuable 43 runs for the first wicket. But wicket kept on falling at regular intervals as Parsa’s innings was wrapped up at mere 98 runs in 30.5 overs.

Pratap Maharjan was the only Parsa’s batsman, who produced some threat to the Airliners as he smashed 26 off 27 balls. Besides Maharjan, Prakash Sharma chipped in 15 while Naseer Khan collected 12 runs. Sandeep Shrestha was the peak of Yeti Airlines’ bowlers picking up three wickets in his 4.5 overs spell. Shrestha conceded just 14 runs. Likewise, Kalam Ali and Prafulla Vaidya clinched two wickets each while Kalyan Raj and Birendra Shah took a wicket apiece.

Chasing a reasonably small target of 99 run, Yeti Airlines batting faltered as they lost eight wickets in their runchase. Thanks to Vaidya, who scored 24 runs to lead his team to the final. Also to score useful runs were Gyanendra Shrestha and Rabindra Thapa making 18 and 15 runs respectively.

Amit Mehata, who was declared man of the match later, bowled extremely well for the locals picking up four wickets in his eight overs spell. Rajeev Shrestha also impressed with a couple of wickets in his name.
