Post Report BIRGUNJ, Jan 26: Union Bank of India (UBI) clinched the Chachan Gold Cup defeating Yeti Airways by 66 runs in the final match played at the Adaershanagar Stadium on Saturday. Yeti Airways batsmen failed to chase the victory target of 210 runs in 40 overs and were skittled out in the 35th over for mere 143 runs. Rabindra Thapa was the highest scorer for Yeti with a patient 29 while Raju Basnet and Monish Shrestha contributed 27 each. Manish Sakhlekar of UBI Mumbai excelled with the cherry taking four of the Yeti wickets. Anju Swami scalped three batsmen while Sudhakar Harmalkar took two wickets. Earlier, UBI, batting first after winning the toss, put up a total of 209 runs for nine wickets in 40 overs. Anju Swami was the chief scorer with 66 off 80 deliveries while Ratnam Malviya made a breezy 39 off 34 balls. Bowling for Yeti, Raju Basnet and Sandeep Shrestha took two wickets apiece. Kalam Ali, Prafulla Vaidya and Birendra Shah took one wicket each. The winners purse carried a cash prize of Rs 11,000 apart from the Cup. Anju Swami was adjudged man of the match as well as man of the series. Post Report BHAKTAPUR, Jan 26: Bhaktapur Youth Circle won a closely contested five setter against Indreni Youth Club to move into the last eight of the 3rd Workers Cup volleyball tournament on Saturday. The local boys, despite conceding the first game at 25-16 stormed back in the second with a tight 25-22. Their brilliant combination at the court continued as they won the third game 25-23. The fourth set was the most alluring of all. The game leaned towards Indreni Youth Club when they took the fourth game 28-26 after both teams acquired tie at 25-25. But Bhaktapur Youth won the final game quite comprehensively at 25-13. Ram Prashad Suwal of Bhaktapur was declared man of the match. Likewise, Dhor Patan came from behind to beat Nine Star Club 16-25, 25-16, 25-18, 25-16. With the win Dhor Patan also booked the quarterfinal spot. Krishna Kumar Shrestha of the winning team bagged the man of the match award. In the days first match, Kaski Volleyball Association won a comfortable match against Banepa Municipality 25-10, 25-21, 25-14 to enter the quarterfinals. Lekhnath Lamsal continued his brilliant form to be awarded man of the match in consecutive matches. Jawalakhel Youth Club also registered their name for the last eight scoring a straight game victory of 25-10, 25-12, 25-23 against Ratna Rajya College. Deepak Thapa of the winning team was awarded man of the match. In the days last match, Galaxian Club outplayed Sporting Circle 25-18, 25-20, 25-13 to be the last team to enter the quarterfinals. All the quarterfinal matches will be played on Sunday. |
