Nepal development forum

I had an opportunity to participate in some of the discussions organised by the HMG-Nepal on development forum and its process.

I would like to make some comments on it. Nepal’s efforts to organise and implement such process here in the country instead of in Paris are praiseworthy. In the context of national and international environment, this process will enhance the building of national consensus and strengthen confidence among the professionals, planners, bureaucrats and decision-makers. Better environment of transparency and participatory will also be there.

The planners, bureaucrats and policy makers have come together into the mainstream of development endeavours. If too much time is being wasted in a consensus building process, the poor people in the remote areas of Nepal will continue to suffer.

Finally, one can hope that in three to four years time, HMG-Nepal will be able to conduct Nepal Development Forum seminars in Jumla instead of in five star hotels in Kathmandu. This high jump from Paris to Jumla will bring Nepal’s development endeavours even closer to the grassroots, especially when one is talking about rural development in Nepal.
