Lowering dignity

My attention has been drawn towards Niranjan Koirala’s article entitled "Images, symbols and nationalism" (July 15, 2002, TKP). "My argument is....." is how one of the paragraphs begins in the said piece. Koirala seems to rejoice in lowering the dignity of Nepali society. His arguments against the national dress code are not convincing. When a growing number of Nepalis do not want to hear even what GP Koirala has to say, there is no reason why people should pay attention to other Koiralas. In fact, these other Koiralas, should understand that their immoral deeds and anti-national acts in the post-1990 Nepal have been tarnishing the image of a statesman like BP Koirala. The Koiralas should exercise restraint, considering BP’s contribution to this country.
