It’s Sunakothi

I was surprised to read the article entitled "Suna Kotha" by Poonam Karmacharya published in TKP last week. There is no such place called Suna Kotha in Kathmandu Valley. The writer must have meant Sunakothi that lies in the south of Lalitpur district. It is called "Sunthi" in local language. I know about the place because I have spent several years of my childhood in my uncle’s house. My uncle is a Maharjan, and I feel those days spent there are unforgettable.

It seems that the writer did not visit the lovely place. She might have passed through it in a car or motorcycle. A Nepali, who wants to write about Nepali destinations for tourists, should have known about its history, specialities, local temples and the way people live. I hope she would try to peep into the "dirty, dark and difficult" villages where people have been living for thousands of years, and they do not know anything about the dirty politics the city dwellers are fond of.
