Das dazzles in Kalaiya’s win

Post Report

KATHMANDU, March 9 : Binod Das clinched three wickets to guide Kalaiya Cricket Club (KCC) to a comfortable seven- wicket quarterfinal victory over Everest College Cricket Academy in the ongoing Ganesh Man Memorial Cricket tournament being played at the Tribhuvan University Ground on Saturday.

Das, who have already made his mark in the international arena with his recent success in the Under-19 World Cup Cricket tournament, conceded just 11 runs in his spell of 5.4 overs to wrap up Everest tail.

Everest College innings could not find any solid partnership throughout as they elected to bat first in a batsman friendly pitch. Besides the first wicket partnership between Nirmal Poudel and Avishek Agrawal, Everest College failed to produce any other significant partnerships as their innings ended for lowly 65 runs in 32.4 overs.

Everest College were well placed until the 10th over as the opening batsmen chipped in with useful 31 runs but off spinner Sanjam Regmi removed Agrawal for 9 to KCC’s batting collapse. Opener Poudel, with steady 22 runs off 56 balls, was the lone batsman to reach double figures in Everest College innings.

Wickets kept falling at regular intervals and Everest College’s hope to create any upset against star-studded KCC scattered as the last nine wickets added just 34 runs on the board.

The visitors’ bowling was so precise that only four boundaries were struck in Everest College innings. Besides Das, Regmi showing his experience bowled outstandingly giving away just three runs in his six-over spell that included four maiden overs and two wickets.

Agrawal also used the ball nicely to maintain good line and length snatching two wickets. In his seven overs, Agrawal conceded eight runs. Part time bowler Kanishka Chaugain also picked up two wickets in four overs.

Chasing lowly 66 runs, pace bowler Radheshyam Mishra threatened the visitors with impressive three-wicket haul but their total was too small to bother KCC batsmen.

Kanishka Chaugain topscored with 19 runs for KCC as Dipesh Shrestha remained unbeaten at 11 runs. KCC skipper Das was adjudged man of the match. The first semifinal match between Biratnagar Cricket Club and Mahaveer Cricket Club will be staged on Sunday.
