Rain does trick for Bhairahawa

Post Report

KATHMANDU, May 14 Region No 4 (Bhairahawa) entered the final of the Birendra Memorial National Cricket League Championship after they shared points with Region No 1 (Biratnagar) due to heavy overnight downpour at the Tribhuvan University cricket ground, which forced the organisers to call off the match without a ball being bowled on Tuesday.

The match referee Kamal Shrestha ruled the match draw when the grounds-men failed to manage the ground in their four and half-hour endeavors. The draw means Bhairahawa get five points in three matches while Biratnagar, who were the victim of similar circumstances in their match against Nepalgunj are at four points including two draws in the championship.

"We’re facing a tough luck in the championship," said Dipendra Chaudhary, the skipper of Biratnagar. "Since it’s a selection tournament, our boys could not show their potentials which is very frustrating in this level of cricket," he added.

On the other hand, his counterpart Raju Khadka, despite advancing to the final looked unhappy. "How can we celebrate when our boys could not show their talents, which is essential for a selection championship?" It would have been another story if we had managed to beat them in at least a 25-over match," said the 26 year-old veteran skipper.

The organisers Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) had declared the championship as the players selection process to set the close camp training for the upcoming Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Trophy to be held in Singapore on September.

Region No 1 will meet Region No 3 in a crucial tie on Wednesday in the second last match of the league phase.
