Kathmandu XI humble ASCA to clinch series

KATHMANDU, Oct 19:Kathmandu XI humbled the visiting Abhijeet Sinha Cricket Academy (ASCA) team from Lucknow by 108 runs at Tribhuvan University Cricket Ground Kirtipur to clinch the three match friendly series.

Kathmandu had won the first game by 28 runs on Thursday.

In the one-sided match, Kathmandu never looked back after winning the toss and electing to bat first. They carted the visiting bowlers to all part of the ground to rattle up 203 runs in the allotted 40 overs. Sharad Veswakar led the way with a brilliant innings of 79 runs. Bardan Chalise helped to prop up the score with a valuable innings of 38 runs. Ravi Thapa also chipped in with 17 runs.

Raghav was the most successful visiting bowler with three scalps to his name. Balbir Singh and Deepchand also bagged two wickets each.

Set a daunting target of 204 runs, the visitors succumbed to the tight Kathmandu bowling to be bundled out for 95 runs. Only Rehan Khan with 24 runs and Istiyar Ahmad with 21 runs showed application as Raj Shrestha wrecked havoc among the visitors. He claimed four wickets in his spell of seven overs giving away only eight runs. Bardan Chalise showed god control with the ball as well to clinch three scalps. Bantu Bataju bagged the remaining two wickets to seal the visitors’ fate.

The third match of the series will be played on Sunday.
