Major changes in Royal Palace Secretariat

From Our Special Correspondent

KATHMANDU, April 7 : A major administrative change and reshuffle have been effected in the Narayanhiti Royal Palace Secretariat. The changes will come into effect from the Nepal New Year which falls on April 14.

Deputy Chief of the Royal Palace Household Chiran Shumshere Thapa, alongwith other 18 officials, has been retired on age ground.

Three more officials, including Bishwa Bikram Shah, Secretary in the Comptroller Department, have been given the marching orders prematurely.

Sudan Pokhrel, Private Secretary to the king, would be the new Deputy Chief of the Royal Palace Household.

In what appears like a most significant decision, Press Secretary Mohan Bahadur Pandey has been appointed as the new Private Secretary.

Colonel Yogeshwar Karki has been appointed as the new Press Secretary. The Press Secretariat, however, has been divested of the responsibility of foreign affairs which will now onwards be looked after by the Principal Secretariat.

Pashupati Maharjan and Sharada Prasad Pradhan have been given two years’ extension in their present posts, Principal Secretary and the Chief of the Royal Palace Household, respectively.

Similarly, Shekhar Dhungana, a joint secretary in the Press Secretariat, has been transferred to the Principal Secretariat.

The post of Military Secretary being held by Vivek Shah has been upgraded as Principal Military Secretary, subsequent to his promotion as Lieutenant General.
