Irreparable roads?

The Narayangarh-Mugling section of Prithvi highway is seriously damaged and vehicular movement is impossible on this road nowadays. This is not the first time the national highway is damaged. It happens during the rainy season. Building such roads requires a big amount of money and technocracy. This and countless other big-budget roads are built with the financial assistance from some donor countries or agencies. It is a shame to our country that we are unable to even maintain the infrastructure and keep them functional, forget building them on our own.

Every year, the country produces hundreds of engineers and geologists. Moreover, a greater number of people receives such technical degrees from overseas. Is nobody able to offer a lasting solution to this chronic problem? Is it the question of finance and technocracy, or commitment? Who is responsible? The situation is really serious, as the road is the major link between the Kathmandu Valley and other districts. The effects of road damage are reflected in soaring prices of daily essentials like vegetables, dairy products et al.
