Flights resume in Humla
Post Report
SIMIKOT (Humla), Feb 6
: The flights, which had come to a halt due to snowfall two weeks back at Simikot airport,
have resumed its regular flight from today. This has made this mountainous region of Humla
district normal, and people are relieved again.
In this remote
district, flights have been the only means of transportation since it lacks proper roads.
After the snowfall of January 27, layers of snow on the airport had caused hindrance to
flight conduction from this airport including those from Nepalgunj and Surkhet. This
disruption had stranded many people at the Simikot airport who wanted to go down to warmer
plains, while many at the Rajha airport, Nepalgunj were anticipating the quick resumption
of flights so that they could return home.
This disruption had
caused great inconvenience in the transportation of food supply to this region, and the
Local Administration office there had also expressed concern over the shortage of food
that was likely to occur in this district if the flights had been delayed for some more
days. As a result, this shortage of food could raise the prices of basic commodities.
In order to start the
usual flights, tractors had been employed to clear away the snow from the airport. After
the airport was cleared of snow today, Royal Nepal Airlines had conducted a late flight
from this airport, followed by Yeti and Sangrila Airlines carrying people who were
stranded there for many days. The jubilant locals are hopeful that even the necessary
commodities will be flown in without much delay. The locals of this remote mountainous
district who had only been connected by radio all these days have once again been able to
get their hands on the daily newspapers that are flown in from the capital.
