Lalitpur beat Bhaktapur by 91 runs in opener

KATHMANDU, Feb 7 : Lalitpur beat Bhaktapur by 91 runs in the inaugural match of the Region No. 3 District-level Cricket Selection tournament at the Tribhuvan University cricket ground on Friday.

It was man of the match Dhiraj Gyawali’s scintillating effort of unbeaten 83 runs, which sealed the fate of Bhaktapur as Lalitpur scored 184 runs for the loss of six wickets in 40 overs. In reply, Bhaktapur could only compile 93 runs all out in 33.4 overs.

Apart from Gyawali, Santosh Shrestha chipped in with 22 runs while Naresh Rana contributed 20 runs for the winning team. Only Avay Poudel (34), Maheshwor Shrestha (17) and Bijay Shakya (10) could reach the double figure mark from Bhaktapur.

Bijay Joshi notched three wickets and Saroj Chitrakar picked up two for Lalitpur. Besides, Naresh Rana and Pravin Shakya claimed a wicket apiece for the winners. From Bhaktapur, Gaurav Pokharel walked away with three wickets while Niroj Pahadi claimed two and Chandan Tamrakar sent a batsman to the pavilion. Lalitpur will take on Tribhuvan University team at Tribhuvan University ground while Kathmandu is scheduled to meet Bhaktapur at Tundikhel in two different fixtures of Friday.

Meanwhile, Kaski stayed alive in the Regional Selection tournament of Region No. 4 as they scored a narrow 1-wicket victory over Chitwan in a sensational match on Friday.

Chitwan made 102 runs in 29.3 overs after winning the toss and electing bat first. Kaski took 30.4 over to reach the target losing nine wickets. Hom Tamang and Prakash Gurung bagged three wickets apiece for the winning team. Dipesh Khatri, Shankar Gurung and Pradip Raut also notched a wicket each. Bishnu Pun and Sachin Gupta took two wickets apiece for Chitwan. Govinda Pradhan of the losing side bagged the man of the match award. Rupandehi will meet Kaski in the crucial tie on Saturday.
