Mountaineers, actors to play football friendly

KATHMANDU, Feb 13 : The Nepal Mountaineering Association (NMA) and Nepal Film Artists National Association (NFANA) will jointly organise a friendly football match at the Dashrath Stadium on 8th March.

The football match will feature celebrated personalities of Nepali entertainment sector at one side while mountaineers and tourism entrepreneurs will be their opponents. According to the organisers, the football match is organised to commemorate the Mount Everest Golden Jubilee Celebration 2003.

Speaking at a press conference in the capital on Sunday, Dr Harka Gurung, the first Tourism Minister of Nepal and the captain of NMA team said that the match will serve welfare purpose. "The match will be an example of unity," he said.

The captain of film entrepreneurs will be popular artist and director Nir Bikram Shah, who also
stressed the idea of supporting the people involved in film business and mountaineering through these kind of matches in addition to entertainment of spectators.

The estimated cost of the match is around one million rupees while the organisers expect Rs1.5 million of profit from the tournament. The profit will be divided between Mount Everest Golden Jubilee Committee and two organisers equally.

"The match will be played full 90 minutes and another 90 minutes are allotted for entertainment purpose," said Krishna Malla, the president of NFANA while briefing reporters. Renowned mountaineer Appa Sherpa, the Golden Jubilee Celebration’s Organising Committee’s acting president Damodar SJB Rana and NMA vice-president Ang Tschering Sherpa were also present on the occassion.
