Romeo Boys emerge winners

KATHMANDU, Feb 14 : Binod Tamrakar struck hattrick as Romeo Boys Club, Panauti emerged winners in the Khukuri Gold Cup Football tournament’s preliminary round of Kavre district beating The Winner Club,
Dhulikhel 5-3.

In the high scoring final on Friday, Winner Club’s Nirajan Shrestha scored the first goal in the 14th minute of the match but Tamrakar fired two quick goals to keep the early set-back away. Santwona Tamrakar added one more before the half time and Tamrakar completed his hattrick in the dying minutes of the second half.

Youth Sports Club became first in Parsa defeating New Everest Club 4-0 in the title clash on Friday. Umesh Chaudhary put them ahead in the first half and Niranjan Patel, Krishna Shakya and Rajiv Lakhe goals in the second half helped Youth Sports to register a convincing 4-0 win. Umesh Chaudhary was adjudged the best player of the tournament as he netted a total of seven goals throughout.

Ramnagar Birta booked the final spot in Mahottari after Rohit Chaudhary fired a golden goal in the 94th minute of the match against Sinjiya Club on Friday. The second semifinal will be staged between Bardibas Club and Jaleshwor Club on Saturday.

New Danfe Club and Karkaud Youth Club won their respective matches against Boys Union and Dhamboji Sports Club in Nepalgunj. New Danfe beat Boys Union 5-0 and Karkaud thrashed Dhamboji 1-0. In the third match of the day, Bagmati held Jayakishan 1-1 draw. New Danfe, Karkaud, Model and Bagmati teams entered the semifinals.

In Nuwakot, New Star Club ‘A’ scored a 2-0 win against Battar Youth Club on Friday. Both the goals New Star scored were netted in the second half from Buddhi Lal Nagarkoti and Binod Khadgi.

Unified Laxmimarga Development Association edged past Durgapuri-XI 3-2 in Morang to advance into the semifinals of the tournament. Binod Lama, Madhav Rai and Ashok Sunwar scored a goal each for the winning team while Ram Thapa netted both the goals Durgapuri scored in the match.

In Gaighat, Gaighat Youth Club lift the district title beating Meghawi Youth Club 1-0 in a closely-contested final. Deepak Thapa scored the solitary goal in the 35th minute. A total of 10 teams participated in the tournament.

Sanopokhara Club will take on FC Enternet in the final of Makwanpur tournament after the organising committee excluded Morning Health Club from the tournament for fielding a player who changed his name and play two Khukuri Cup tournaments. Ram Chandra Timilsina, who played in Chitwan competition changed his name as Chandra Timilsina and appeared in the colors of Morning Health who defeated Sanopokhara in the semifinals. The final will be staged on Saturday.

In Butwal, Youth Sports Club ousted Nawayuva Sports Club 3-2 to advance next round of the tournament. Bikash Gurung struck in  the 40th minute followed by two goals from Ishu Chantel and Gopi Pun.
