Folk song extravaganza

KATHMANDU, Feb 18:Radio Nepal today organised a folk song programme in celebration of Her Majesty Queen Komal’s 53rd birthday and 53rd National Democracy Day with a view to unravelling the treasure of Nepali folk songs..

Folk singers from all over the country converged at the premises of the Radio Nepal station and presented their folk songs ( Jhyawures) representing their typicality of different parts of Nepal, today.

Folks songs representing different zones were presented in different tunes and lyrics that include Deuda, Chandi, Saleju, Jankapur Tamang Selo and so on.

At the programme when most of the singers were clad in Daura Surwal and Dhakka Topis, women singers were seen in Gunyu Cholo.

Senior artistes Ram Thapa and Basudev Munal opened the function with their patriotic songs like

Nepali Ho, Nepal Lai Maya Garnu Parchha and another senior female singer Meera Rana and others also enthralled the audience with an old folk song recorded in the Radio Nepal 43 years ago .

The folk song programme today is a part of national song programme held yesterday to celebrate the 53rd birthday of Her Majesty Queen Komal and 53 rd National Democracy Day. On the occasion., Crown Prince Paras Bir Bikram Shah Dev felicitated senior and renowned artistes of the country.

Her Royal Highness Princess Himani Rajya Laxmi Devi Shah also attended the programme.
