Khukuri Cup second round from Feb 26

KATHMANDU, Feb 24 - The second phase of the Khukuri Gold Cup begins from Wednesday with 30 teams that qualified from the preliminary stage and 15 teams involving 12 ‘A’ division clubs and three departmental teams fighting for the finals.

The matches will be played in three different venues including Biratnagar, Pokhara and Nepalgunj. Among 45 teams, 15 teams each will play at one centre. Top four teams of each centre will qualify for the finals scheduled to be held at Dashrath Stadium from March 25. The Cup final will be held on April 5. The winner of the Cup would get a cash prize of Rs 200,000 along with a coveted cup.

According to the organisers, Mahendra Police Club (MPC), Friends Club, Boys Union, Kathmandu Club, Three Star Club and Jawalakhel Youth Club (JYC) are pitted at the Biratnagar centre which also includes local Samrat Sporting Club (Morang), Ilam, Lalbandi Sporting Club (Sarlahi), Unique Club (Bara), The Sprout Group (Sindhupalchowk), Rara Youth Club (Dhankuta), Lumbini Sports (Rupandehi), Boudha Football (Kathmandu) and Madhyapur Youth Club (Bhaktapur).

Tribhuvan Club, New Road Team (NRT), Boys Sports Club and ANFA Academy are among the big clubs that will play at the Pokhara centre. Apart from those clubs, Pokhara Club, Chyasal Youth Club, Sarashwati Youth Club (Rautahat), United Palpali Club (Palpa), Narayangadh Club (Chitwan), Phidim Sporting Club (Paanchthar), Mithila Club (Dhanusa), Tanahun, Sunsari, Siraha Youth
Club and Romeo Boys Club (Kavre) will compete at the Pokhara centre.

Likewise, from Nepalgunj big teams like Manang Marshyangdi Club (MMC), Rani Pokhari Corner Team (RCT), Sankata Sports Club and Naxal Youth Alliance (NYA) take on other clubs picked up from the district-level tournaments. The other clubs are: Youth Club, Kailali, Youth Sports Club (Parsa), Nuwakot, FC Internet (Makwanpur), United Club (Jhapa), Himalaya Club (Saptari), Model Club (Banke), Kanchan Youth Club (Kanchanpur), Suryodaya Cultural Club (Mahottari) and Friendship Club (Surkhet).
