Puskar Dhoj Shahi boxing from Feb 27

KATHMANDU, Feb 25 : The first Puskar Dhoj Shahi Cup Inter-club National Boxing tournament will begin from Thursday in the capital, the tournament organising committee said at a press conference on Tuesday.

The five-day event, being held in memory of the late boxer Shahi, will feature a total of eight weight categories – light flyweight (48kg), flyweight (51kg), bantamweight (54kg), featherweight (57kg), lightweight (60kg), light welterweight (64kg), welterweight (69kg) and middleweight (75kg).

All the bouts will be held under the rules of International Amateur Boxing Association (AIBA) and Nepal Boxing Association (NBA), and the best club in the competition will be awarded with the Puskar Dhoj Shahi Cup, it was said at the conference. Similarly, there will also be Krishna Mohan Shrestha trophies for best emerging player and the best player of the tournament.

The total cost of the event, to be conducted through fund generated from former national boxing players, is estimated at Rs. 187,500.
