New traffic rule

All pillion riders should wear helmets, otherwise they will be fined. This new traffic rule is attractive that ensures the safety of pillion riders. But one wonders, how long will it last? Or is it just a ploy to earn more quick bucks in the name of collecting "fines".

Street life is bizarre. Roads in the capital are already congested enough. An overwhelming number if vehicles of all shapes and sizes has made streets in Kathmandu a hell. Road accidents are a regular phenomenon. How black and gray the Kathmandu Valley has become over a decade or so.

Traffic rules are not strictly followed. It seems there are different sets of rules for different people. Such practices have led to utter frustration among the daily commuters. Against this backdrop, it is only natural to brand the new helmet rule a mere stint. Hoping against hope, it can be said, however, that the rule stays longer and for everybody. There’s more. Old unwanted toxic-emanating motor vehicles should be banned. Similarly, license should be given only after holding genuine tests for would-be drivers.
