Disabled children demonstrate
their talent
Post Report
KATHMANDU, Jan 7 National Music Festival
for Children with Disability, organised today by the National Federation of the
Disabled-Nepal and Manju Shree Sangeet Mahavidyalaya, provided a common platform for
handicapped children to showcase their talent.
Lighting the inaugural lamp, Dr Keshar Jung
Rayamajhi, Chairman of Raj Parishad Standing Committee praised children and the organisers
for coming up with such an event which he said "is very essential for these
children".
Such events are needed not only for encouraging
handicapped children but to prove their talents to the other half, who think of the
handicapped as a burden to society.
Rayamajhi also expressed the view that the
government should make provision for these children and create a healthy environment for
them so that they could live like other children, who have been blessed by fate.
Fifty children of 14 institutes looked eager for
their turn to show their talents. They were very confident about themselves and thrilled
with the applause of the audience.
The show, which was organised to collect funds
for scholarship for these children, clearly revealed that these children only need proper
opportunities to come up in life.
Most of the mentally-retarded children were seen
playing musical instruments like the piano, tabla and madal. They excelled in dancing as
well.
It was a treat to hear visually-impaired
children singing like birds. Equally heart-rending was a play presented by speech and
hearing-impaired children. More amazing, even as their joy was evident in their faces, as
these mute children displayed their dancing talent.
This show should be taken as a milestone in the
development of the handicapped children and such efforts need to be encouraged. Though
this was only a small step towards that achievement, it has shown a ray of hope for a
better future of these children.
