Another side

It seems Suruchita Shrestha is unaware of another side of the story: the villagers living in the downstream area like Chovar and squatters who have made the Bagmati banks their home, are beginning to suffer due to continuing destruction of the Bagmati ecosystem (June 3, 2003, Human Waste). The culprits are no other than the denizens of the capital city, and most of them are quite rich. The government has spent a lot of money on the development of the city and the drains over the years, but has it ever spent on the development of the river system? And more than human faeces, the continuing dumping of hazardous solid waste along the banks is causing another serious problem: contamination of ground water aquifers. Take some time off, walk along the banks and you will see it all.
