Kathmandu Club enter quarters

BIRATNAGAR, March 1 : Kathmandu Club edged out Samrat Sporting Club to enter the quarterfinals of the second phase of Khukuri Cup football tournament on Saturday.

Amrit Bajracharya fired the first goal as early as in the 7th minute of the match. Kathmandu Club doubled their lead nine minutes into the second half to stamp their superiority. Meanwhile Samrat’s Siddhartha Rai miscued a spot-kick squandering a golden chance to bring the match at level. Samrat pulled one later in the 79th but could not score an equaliser in the remaining 11 minutes.

In the second match, Gorkha Boys Club registered a tennis-like 6-2 victory over Bouddha Football Club, Kathmandu. The losing club however, were in front at 2-1 in the first half but Gorkha bounced back from the early hiccups to score five goals in the second half. Krishna Gurung netted twice while Himal Chandra Thapa, Om Bahadur Kauda, Som Khati and Laxman Gurung netted one goal apiece.

In Nepalgunj, Sankata Sports Club (SCC) downed Modal Club, Banke 2-0 to enter the semifinals of the tournament. Ijan Tuladhar and Raj Kumar Ghising found the net for SSC. Parsa Team entered the quarterfinals of the tournament after Ritu Shakya converted a Umesh Chaudhary cross to beat Nuwakot 1-0.

Rani Pokhari Corner Team (RCT) will meet Naxal Youth Alliance on Sunday in an all ‘A’ division club affair. Udayapur Club will take on Kailali on the same day.

In Pokhara, Tribhuvan Club of Royal Nepal Army marched into the semifinals beating Pokhara Club 1-0 in the quarterfinals. Chakra Tamang struck the decisive blow for Army team in the 13th minute. In the second match, Dharan hammered Khaireni Youth Club, Tanahu 6-1.
