Dharan hammer Boys Sports to enter semis

POKHARA, March 3 : Dharan Football Club stunned capital’s ‘A’ division side Boys Sports Club 5-0 to advance into the semifinals of the second phase Khukuri Cup Football tournament held at the Pokhara Stadium on Monday.

The match was goalless in the first half but the 50th minute spot-kick from Sachin Rai opened the floodgates as Dharan netted all five goals of the match in the second half. Kendra Limbu made it 2-0 just three minutes later and the first goal scorer Rai was the provider of Dharan’s second goal.

Dharan netted remaining three goals in last five minutes of the match as BSC pressed hard to score in the final minutes and left their defense slack. Kendra Limbu found his second and team’s third in the 85th minute and in the 89th minute Rai also doubled his personal tally. Kamal Basnet found one more in the injury time to hammer the ‘A’ division outfit. It is for the first time in the tournament any district team have beaten ‘A’ division club with 5-0 margin.

ANFA Academy will take on Siraha Youth Club to join other three teams for the final four spot. New Road Team and Tribhuvan Club are other two teams qualifying for the finals.

In Nepalgunj

United Club, Jhapa secured their place for the finals of the tournament to be held in Kathmandu as they recorded a 9-8 penalty shoot-out win over Youth Sports Club, Parsa in the quarterfinal on Monday.

Both the teams failed to break the 1-1 deadlock in the regulation as well as extra time. Rani Pokhari Corner Team are the other team securing the berth of the semifinals at Nepalgunj Centre.

In Biratnagar

Three Star Club will appear at the finals in Kathmandu as they convincingly beat Rupandehi 4-0 to enter the semifinals on Monday.

Umesh Lama gave a precious lead just a minute before the half-time to Three Star Club. Surendra Tamang was the provider of the first goal. Three Star doubled their lead one minute into the second half after Nagendra Limbu struck brilliantly at Rupandehi goal. Umesh Lama scored in the 50 th minute and Deepak Thapa netted an own goal in the 56 th minute as Three Star won the match 4-0.

The last quarterfinal of the Biratnagar centre is scheduled between Madhyapur Thimi Youth Club and Friends Club on Tuesday.
