NOC to conduct sports medicine
course

KATHMANDU, March 14: The Nepal Olympic Committee
(NOC) will conduct an International Olympic Committee (IOC) Continental Intermediate Level
Sports Medicine Course from March 18-21, the NOC confirmed at a press conference on
Friday.
Nine countries of Asia will participate at the
course designed for the development of sports medicine. Among the participants, 10 will be
the foreigners while 50 Nepali sports associated experts in the likes of medical
specialists, coaches, physiotherapist and technical personals will attend the four-day
course. The other countries participating in the course are South Korea, Brunei, Malaysia,
Sri Lanka, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Bhutan.
Ajay Rana, the president of organising committee
said that the vision of the course is to produce technical manpower in sports medicine.
"Those attending this course can easily train others as well," Rana said at the
press conference. "The course means, our coaches and officials are well aware about
sports science which is an essential element of modern sports." Doctor Gurucharan
Singh of Malaysia will deliver the lectures related to nutrition to sports and drug abuses
and doping control during the course.
According to Rana, the main objective of the
course is to shed detail information on athletes physical and mental afflictions,
fitness, sports nutrition, injuries, their specialised management and rehabilitation. The
course will be the first of its kind in Nepal. Iran is the other Asian nation who will
host similar course involving other Asian nations this year.
A total of 23 foreign and Nepali doctors will
submit a paper each during the course. The course also consists a panel discussion session
on Talent Identification in Sports designed to identify hidden potentials.
Nepal had made a bid for this programme in the IOC Congress last year. |
