Their Majesties in Chennai

KATHMANDU, March 22 (RSS) - His Majesty King Gyanendra Bir Bikram Shah Dev and Her Majesty Queen Komal Rajya Laxmi Devi Shah left for Chennai from New Delhi today in connection to a pilgrimage to various places of India.

Their Majesties were seen off by Minister of State for External Affairs Binod Khanna, senior officials of Indian government and officials of the Royal Nepalese Embassy at the New Delhi airport. Upon arrival at the Chennai Airport, Their Majesties the King and Queen were accorded a warm welcome by Chief Minister of Tamilnadu Jayalalita, State Ministers and senior officials.

Meanwhile, it was also reported that His Majesty King Gyanendra inaugurated the commencement of the Peetharohan golden jubilee ceremony amid a grand function at Madras University in Chennai this afternoon. The ceremony marks the golden jubilee of Jagatguru Shankaracharya Jayendra Saraswoti of Kanchi Kamakoti Peeth’s 50 years as the holy shrine’s principal aspirant. Her Majesty the Queen was present on the occasion. His Majesty the King was presented with a souvenir by Jagatguru Shankaracharya.
