Justice and forgiveness,
pillars of peace
Post Report
KATHMANDU, March 25 : "Justice and
forgiveness are the pillars that support peace", said Fr. Joe Thelar in an
interaction organised today in the capital by Nagarik Awaz on Present Terror,
Killings, Violence, Confrontation and the State of the Affected". Fr. Thelar is
involved in the sector of health research and is working in Nepal to protect the rights of
the people in the region.
"Any traumatic experience cannot only have
physical impacts, but it also can leave a long -term spiritual and emotional impacts on
the affected", he said.
"As long as one cannot communicate ones
traumatic experiences, one cannot hope to lead a spiritually and emotionally healthy
life", he added, stressing the need to make the trauma victims of present day Nepal
to spaek out their sufferings.
"Our life is dynamic. We are meant to meet
people, to act and to talk and not to close ourselves from expressing ourselves and
developing fulfilling relationships," he further added. Similarly, he said that in
order to establish peace, one needs to forgive.
Citing the example of Martin Luther King who
strived to bring civil liberty to the dark-coloured during difficult times, Fr. Thelar
highlighted the importance of peace as the only reliable way to progress.
"Peace is not a static thing or the absence
of events. It is something that needs active and constructive participation from all the
people in the society," he said.
