KATHMANDU, March 26 : Kantipur Publications and Population Services International (PSI), an INGO working in the area of family health, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) today to co-operate in the area of reproductive health management.

Addressing the signing ceremony, Kailash Sirohiya, Managing Director of Kantipur Publications said, "As part of our social responsibility, we are committed to support PSI to improve the health standards in Nepal."

"The Publications realises its role in creating awareness so as to enhance the effect of much needed behavioural change to bring about a paradigm shift in the Nepali social marketing terrain", Sirohiya said.

On the occasion, Steven Honeyman, Country Representative of PSI said, " We work for a behavioural change of the public from the high risk behaviour to low risk behaviour." He also informed that PSI is the largest social marketing organisation in the world working in the areas of family planning, AIDS prevention and maternal health. "We work with the private sector to deliver our public health goal", he said.

Rajendra Bahadur Singh, Corporate AGM of Kantipur Publications, making a brief presentation on ‘Reproductive Health Situation in Nepal’, said that there was a considerable gap between the level of awareness about contraceptives and their actual use in Nepal. "Such joint endeavours can play an important role in bridging this gap," he said.
