Clarification

Reference is drawn to reports on Mahalisagar in The Kathmandu Post on March 22, 2003, suggesting that India is raising the height of the dike at Mahalisagar.

In this context, may I draw your attention to the Press release issued by the Embassy of India on March 20, in which, it is categorically mentioned that-

a) Reconstruction of the damaged gated escape of Mahalisagar was begun in January 2003 after a joint survey had taken place in September 2002 by the contact officers of Nepal and India, and only after recieving the approval of the design from the Nepalese side in December 2002.

b) Press release also referred to the understanding between the two countries as per which there would be no alteration in the full reservoir level of 92.76 metres as well as the crest level of the regulator of Mahalisagar at 91.60 metres.

First secretary
Embassy of India, Kathmandu
