Understanding of menopause,
focus of intl conference
Post Report
KATHMANDU, March 27 : The understanding of
menopause will be the focus of the international conference organised by the Nepal Society
of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (NSOG) which kicked off today.
Crown Princess Himani Rajya Laxmi Devi Shah
inaugurated the conference. The three-day programme carrying a banner Life and
Health of Menopause will discuss various issues of menopause. Menopause is the time
at "mid-life" when a woman has her last period. It happens when the ovaries stop
releasing eggs.
Approaching menopause involves a process of
change - and every woman experiences this transition in unique and individual ways.
However, in a society like ours women are often unable to discuss these changes.
Therefore, the conference will give importance
to womens health and understanding of menopause education to discuss issues such as
physical, mental and social changes in women during menopause.
"Understanding of menopause is important
for women," said Dr. Sudha Sharma, president of NSOG. She added that due to the
social structure in Nepal women often find it hard to discuss on these issues.
The society has also established a health
improvement camp for women in rural areas. NSOG is a society that represents doctors
working in gynaecology. At the function, Crown Princess Himani signed the Women
Health-related bulletin.
