Management students agitate against off-syllabus questions

Post Report

KATHMANDU, Nov 17 - Management students of Tribhuvan University, Kirtipur picketed the controller’s office demanding full marks for questions, which they claimed were out of syllabus."Three Questions are out of syllabus," said Deepak Raj Baral, a second-year postgraduate Tax Laws and Planning student. "We have filed an application at the controllers office stating we want full marks for those questions," Baral added. "We are ready to sit for re-examination too."

In their application, the students who picketed the Controller’s Office for two hours, have also demanded for action against the board members who designed the papers.According to the students, the questions were from the already scrapped syllabus. "The questions carried are from the Taxation Act 2031 which has now been replaced by Taxation Act 2058," Baral said. The questions carried a total of twenty- four marks.

When asked about the allegation of the students, Badri Narayan Shrestha, controller, who is currently out of the valley, said the office would look upon the matter and decide the most viable solution. "If there is a mistake as alleged, then the mistake will have to be corrected," Shrestha said. "But first, it is necessary to assess the report of the board assigned to set the questions."

However, Dr. Shaligram Koirala, lecturer on Tax Laws and Planning, said none

of the aforementioned questions are out of syllabus. "The fact is the students didn’t understand the question," he said. "The headings have not been explicitly mentioned but the papers carry nothing that is not inscribed in the current provision."
