Indian Embassy win Soaltee Super Sixes

Post Report

KATHMANDU, Nov 17 - Indian Embassy successfully defended the Soaltee Super Sixes title as Kantipur Publications faltered on the final hurdle after putting on valiant performance today on the last day of the tournament at the TU Cricket Ground.

This was the second time in five-year history of the tournament that Kantipur let the trophy slip out of grasp after reaching the final. Five years back, Kantipur reached the final but lost to British Embassy.

Indian Embassy was made to struggle for the win after being set a small target. They went into the last over, bowled by Kantipur captain Sohan Shrestha, requiring 10 runs to win chasing 46/4 and finished the match with a ball to spare.

Amit Jain scored 17 while Suresh Kumar got 23 before both were bowled out on the fourth over by Anish Karna.

Earlier, Kantipur made disastrous start after being sent in to bat. Gaurav Sirohiya was castled in the first ball of the innings while star player Rohit Sharma was bowled out for 15 runs. Yogesh Swar’s unbeaten 14 and Pravin Karna’s six took Kantipur to 46 runs.

Kantipur, in the semifinal played earlier in the morning, defeated Bank of Kathmandu convincingly by five wickets while Indian Embassy beat British Gorkha by 6 wickets.

Set to score 54 for win, Kantipur hugely benefited from 34 extra runs and Paras Joshi’s 25-run over to complete the match in three overs. Rohit remained unbeaten on 11 while Pravin got 8 with two fours. Bank of Kathmandu had scored a modest total losing just 2 wickets with Rohit Singh’s 17 and Ekraj Rawal’s 13.

Indian Embassy overcame 64/0 of British Gorkha without losing any wicket as Suresh Kumar scored 23 and Amit Jain got 22. British Army’s Captain Seward, retired after scoring 33 and Ajay got 10 for British Gorkha.

Seward was later declared man of the series while Indian Embassy’s Amit Jain and Suresh Kumar received best bowler and best fielder award respectively. Kumari Bank’s Binaya Rana, who scored 28, 32* and 32* in three innings, was declared best batsman of the tournament.
