Universal Academy humble Sambodha

KATHMANDU, Sept 8 (PR) - The second day of the First Reliance International Academy (RIA) Inter-school Sub-juniors’ Basketball tournament did not throe out any close matches. In the first match, Universal Academy managed an 8-7 lead over Sambodha International School in the second quarter. But they were down 7-2, 12-4 and 18-4 respectively in the first, second and third quarter. As the match ended, Sambodha emerged the winner with a 44-18 lead.

NK Singh Memorial had an even more convincing win over Bhaktapur English School in the second match. In all four quarters, Bhaktapur English had eight whereas NK Singh Memorial was far ahead with 47 points.

Milan Vidhya Mandir’s Jitendra Shah alone scored 25 and took his team’s score to 33. His rival team Himalayan International, on the other hand, scored even less than Jitendra himself. They had only 18 points.

After being 5-0 behind in the first quarter, Children’s Heaven School scored 10 in the second and had a 10-7 lead by half time. But that was the only taste of glory for them as New Buddha’s Prakash hammered 10 in the third and 13 in the fourth taking their total score to 30 before the final whistle and won 30-15.


Lama stars for Swayambhu

KATHMANDU, Sept 9 : Nabin Lama struck a hattrick to book Swayambhu Club a place in the ‘C’ division after convincingly beating Tikathali Youth Club 8-1 in the ongoing Martyr’s Memorial ANFA San Miguel ‘C’ division qualifier today at the Sanogaucharan.

Lama completed his hattrick in the 40th minute and added one more goal in the 57th minute. He scored his first goal of the match in the 22nd minute and netted second in the 31st minute. Mahesh Malla Thakuri fired two goals for the winning team and Gopal Tamang and Ramkumar Bika scored a goal each for Swayambhu. Tikathali’s Sadan Khadka scored the only goal from the team.

Malla’s goals came in the second half as he first fired home in the 49th minute and then in the 72nd minute of the match. Tamang and Bika struck in the 66th and 74th minute.

In the second match of the day, Nawa Janahit Youth Club registered a 3-1 win in Group H. Ram Maharjan netted as early as in the second minute of the match and Bishal Gurung doubled the lead in the 35th minute. Hem Rai of the winning team scored in the second-half to guide his team to the semifinal of the group. Bipin Shrestha grabbed a consolation in the 49th minute.

Likewise in Group ‘G’, Friendship Club edged past pre-tournament favorite Kusunti Youth Club 1-0 -thanks to a golden goal from Milan Sherpa. The match was tied at 0-0 in the regulation time before Sherpa struck the decisive blow to help his team book the semifinal berth.
