Consolidate foundation of democracy: Sushil

Pokhara, Aug. 20 (RSS): Nepali Congress general secretary Sushil Koirala has said that the Nepali Congress, which is a full member of the socialist international and is enjoying an international recognition as a responsible democratic party, should never undermine its responsibility towards the country and the people.

NC general secretary Koirala was winding up today the two-day western regional workshop organiSed here with the objective of collecting inputs for drafting party policy and programmes to be discussed at the party’s 10th general convention.

On the occasion, he also stressed the need to strengthen the party’s ideals and values so as to discourage mafia activity and consolidate the foundation of democracy.

Deputy Prime Minister and chief of Nepali Congress policy and programmes department Ramchandra Poudel said the views and sentiments of the participants of the workshop will be accommodated by the policy paper.

He also stressed the need for the upcoming 10th general convention to come up with a declaration that guarantees the people’s right to food, shelter, education, health care and information.

NC central member and chief of central water resources committee of the party Laxman Ghimire was of the view that the party and the government should give serious thought to resolving the growing unemployment problem.

Chief of central administration committee and central member of the party Sunil Kumar Bhandari, central member Rebati Bhusal, member secretary of the policy and programme Department Manmohan Bhattarai and member of the department Govinda Kandel also expressed their views.

NC Kapilvastu district president Kamalesh Kumar Sharma presided.
