Meet to ensure regular supply of essentials

Kathmandu, Aug. 29 (RSS): An interaction programme in connection with the supply of essential commodities was held here today between the concerned bodies of His Majesty’s Government, the federation of Nepalese Chamber of Commerce and Industry and consumers organisations.

Participants of the programme emphasized the need of collective effort for management of supplies and trade promotion in the country, constitution of an all party committee for the welbeing of the consumers in order to regularly monitor the market and effective supply of provisions, as per the Consumers Protection Act, to mention the cost of the products, manufacture and expiry dates, industrial registration number, name, address of the manufacturer, etc.

Director general of the Department of Commerce Krishna Hari Baskota on the occasion informed that those not following the above criterai are liable to two years of imprisonment or fine of Rs 30,000 or even both.

A decision was also taken to make vendors to compulsorily display a price list in their shops for the efficient supply of essential commodities in the market.

Businessmen not following the provision will be liable to two years of imprisonment or a fine of Rs. 100,000 or even both.

Likewise, it was decided to take initiative from all to make a regular and systemic supply of essential commodities on the occasion of Bada Dasain and Tihar festivals.
