Conclude NC convention impartially, urges Koirala

Biratnagar, Dec. 4 (RSS): Nepali Congress president and Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has stressed the need for the NC rank and file to pay attention to concluding the upcoming 10th general convention of the party in a democratic and impartial manner.

NC president and Prime Minister Koirala was addressing function organised by NC central election committee to congratulate and welcome the newly elected party representatives from the village, town and district levels here today.

On the occasion, Mr Koirala expressed the belief that the party’s local level elections held in preparation for the general convention have amply contributed to the consolidation of the party.

Stating that Nepali Congress has on its shoulders the responsibility of establishing democratic culture within the party and encouraging other political parties to promote the same culture, he urged the NC workers to dedicate themselves to promoting national interest.

The Prime Minister said he very recently realised that some "wrong" political forces are out to finish off Nepali Congress and this has been made further clear by the party’s village, town and district level elections. Some of the wrong elements have been swept away in the lower level elections of the party, while the remaining ones will also be routed in the coming general convention, he added.

Those who cannot countenance democracy flourishing in the country are spreading a baseless rumour that the Nepali Congress will split in the general convention, NC President Koirala said, adding the question of split and reunification is irrelevant in the context of Nepali Congress. Policy differences are but natural in a democratic party, he further said.

NC spokesman and central member Narahari Acharya said the 10th general convention will significantly contribute to establish a fully democratic culture within the party.

The general convention will also serve as an important platform for assessing and rectifying past mistakes and weaknesses, he added.

He also said that the gathering is also expected to provide a direction for analysing in depth the factors behind the increasing violence and other aberrations and further democratise the party.

The mega gathering will also make a historic contribution in establishing Nepali Congress, which has already earned the massive popular trust, as a reliable party among the people, he said.

From the chair, NC Morang district president Ashok Koirala said Morang district will fully cooperate in giving electoral victory to present party President Koirala once again in order to strengthen Nepali Congress into a fully democratic political force.
