ISO certifies pharmaceuticals

Kathmandu, Dec 6: Hukam Pharmaceuticals Private Limited has become the first pharmaceutical company in Nepal to achieve ISO 9002 Certification. The International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) has certified that Hukam Pharmaceuticals has used a quality system for manufacturing of pharmaceuticals products.

The International Organization for Standardisation (ISO) is a worldwide federation of national standards bodieds from some 130 countries, established in 1947. ISO promotes the development of standardisation and related activities in the world with a view to facilitating the international exchange of goods and services and to developing cooperation in the spheres of intellectual, scientific, technological and economic activity.

With the ISO certification the products of Hukam Pharmaceuticals will receive global recognition. The achievement of the certificate approves that the GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) adopted by Hukam Pharmaceuticals is up to the International Standard, which further approves the quality of it's products.

"The ISO 9002 certificate is not only the approval of our quality products and our manufacturing practice, but it is also a great motivation for us to strive for further growth and aim for foreign markets too," said Vijay Dugar, Managing Director of Hukam Pharmaceuticals.

Hukam Pharmaceuticals, a member of H.C. Dugar Group of Industries, is manufacturing various medicines in forms tablets, capsules, suspensions, syrups and dry syrups. The company adheres to the WHO recommended GMP standards.

"In order to achieve and sustain the GMP standards and guidelines, the company employs technically qualified and the best skilled manpower that amounts to almost 80 per cent of the total qualified The Industry is running completely isolated penicillin and non-penicillin areas with independent air handling units. All the processes are carried out strictly in accordance with the standard operating procedures (SOP) under the strict supervision of qualified pharmacists.

Hukam is manufacturing the Hoechst range of products in Nepal under technical tie-up with Hoechst Marion Roussel Limited. The company is also manufacturing and marketing a wide range of pharmaceutical formulations under it's own brand names.

Hukam has also established a Bulk Drug Manufacturing Unit, which is the first of it's kind in the country. The unit has started commercial production targeting export to India and overseas markets. "Exports of bulk drug material is also a pioneering move of our company for Nepal, and we are attaching high priority to this sector," Dugar added.
