A principled party, NC will never split; emphasises PM

Janakpurdham, Dec. 23 (RSS): Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has said that the Nepali Congress, which is a principled party at the centre of national politics, will never split.

Prime Minister Koirala, who was addressing the NC workers from Dhanusha and Mahottari district here today, made it clear that debates help strengthen the party and it never becomes weak, provided the party workers exercise restraint.

He also alerted the party workers against the conspiracy being hatched by the Maoists to finish off the Nepali Congress by killing its workers.

Minister for Defence and Finance and NC central member Mahesh Acharya called on the party workers to unite for the protection of democracy.

Stating that the party workers want Girija Babu to continue to provide leadership ‘to the party until the existing problems including terrorism are addressed properly, he called for the cooperation of party workers in resolving such problems.

NC central member and ex-deputy prime minister Miss Shailaja Acharya alerted the party workers against the conspiracy being hatched to bring about a rift within Nepali Congress and end parliamentary democracy.

Once the party gets a new life after the forthcoming general convention it should move ahead with a new vigour and moral strength, she said.

NC spokesman Narahari Acharya said since democracy entails various challenges all party workers should unite to face such challenges.

Also today, Prime Minister Koirala met the delegations of Nepal Trade Union Congress and Nepal Teachers’ Association.

He also met the general convention representatives from Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Siraha and Sindhuli districts.

Inauguration: Meanwhile, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala inaugurated the Nursing Campus building constructed jointly by the Department of Health Services, National Health Training Center, I.C.T.I.V.T, Janakpur Zonal Hospital Development Committee and United Nations International Development Fund at a cost of Rs 4.5 million on the premises of the Janakpur Zonal Hospital at a function today.

Prime Minister Koirala also inaugurated the Maternity and Child Care Center and Kalaazar Laboratory buildings built at a cost of Rs 4.3 million provided by the International Development Agency under the population and family health project.

Speaking on the occasion Mr Koirala urged the doctors to provide atleast one year service in the hilly areas for the welfare of the people and country.

Mr Koirala said it is a matter of sadness that the services of the doctors and nurses are not available at the sub-health posts and health centers opened in all the village development committees of the country.

The problems of the country should be seen by one’s own eyes, Mr Koirala said, expressing confidence that the country’s objectives could be attained by properly utilising means, resources and capabilities available in the country.

Speaking from the chair Health Minister Dr. Rambaran Yadav said that the government has adpoted the policy of opening Nursing Campuses in all the zonal hospitals after the restoration of democracy in the country. This will help to overcome the shortage of nurses, he added.

Informing that 4,000 sub-health centers and primary health centers have been opened in 205 constituencies of the country, Dr. Yadav said that four to five thousand nurses and assistant health workers would be appointed in the days ahead.

In the Terai region the girls are not being sent to school, Dr Yadav said, stressing the need to launch a special programme for this purpose.

Director general of the Department of Health Services B. D. Chataut, chief of the National Health Training Center Laxmi Malla, Dr. G. D. Thakur and Puskal Bharati also expressed their views on the occasion.

Directives: Likewise, Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala has said that the employees, who have a crucial role to play in implementing government policy and programmes, should fulfil their responsibilities sincerely and honestly.

Prime Minister Koirala, who was addressing the chiefs of the Janakpurdham based offices here today, said since it is the duty of both politicians and employees to serve the people, they should give more importance to the problems of the people.

Stating that the government is committed to maintaining law and order, establishing good governance and uprooting corruption, Prime Minister Koirala said the pay hike was aimed boosting the morale of the employees.

There is no need for the employees to be afraid of anyone while fulfilling their responsibilities honestly, he said, expressing his commitment to rise above party politics while working as Prime Minister.

Mr Koirala also stressed the need for coordination among all ministries to expedite the country’s development process.

CDO Tana Gautam spoke of the need to provide adequate authority to the local bodies and encourage them to fulfil their duties honestly and efficiently.

Tributes paid: In Mahottari, Prime Minister and NC president Girija Prasad Koirala paid tributes to martyr Ramnarayan Mishra at the latter’s memorial site at Pipara Bazaar on the occasion of the 33rd death anniversary of the martyr.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Koirala pledged a donation of Rs. 1 million for construction of a statue of martyr Ramnarayan Mishra.

Responding to the demands of the farmers, the NC government has made necessary arrangements for waiving interest on agricultural loan of up to Rs. 30,000 taken by farmers from the Agricultural Development Bank, he said.

Likewise, farmers taking other kinds of loans of up to Rs. 30,000 will receive 10 per cent discount on the interest, he added.

Minister for Defence and Finance Mahesh Acharya, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Mahantha Thakur, Health Minister Dr Ram Baran Yadav, Deputy Speaker Chitralekha Yadav, NC leader Shailaja Acharya, ex-Indian Minister for External Affairs Shyamanandan Mishra, NC central members, ex-ministers and MPs from Dhanusha also paid tributes to martyr Ramnarayan Mishra.

NC Pipara youth committee president Narendra Mishra presided.

Prime Minister Koirala returned to Biratnagar after taking part in various programmes in Dhanusha and Mahottari districts today.
