Dont Forget Cleanliness Aspect We talk a lot about the potential for tourism development in the country. The Himalayas, temples, national parks and so on are cited as attractions for tourists coming to Nepal. It is true that Nature has endowed us with wealth that can be tapped for the prosperity of the country. But, on the one hand we talk of the potentials but we forget the cleanliness aspect on the other hand. No tourist would like to spend his time and money in visiting places where garbage is left uncollected for days on end. This is not the case with cities of the Kathmandu Valley but of all the urban centres in the country. Despite the responsibility falling on the shoulders of the local body, it is disapointing to see that not much has been achieved on the cleanliness front. Even places like Mugling or Narayanghat on highways lack efforts to maintain cleanliness. It is not only for the tourists that cleanliness but for our own sake. The people on whom the responsibility lies must wake up to the reality and work for creating a healthy environment. In this context, garbage disposal problem must be resolved and each municipality must come up with a workable plan and programme in this direction. Pavitra Prasai |
